Disclaimer
Last updated: [June 15, 2026]
Whatsup Germany is an editorial platform that translates, contextualises, and explains German news, regulations, and official information for internationals living in or relocating to Germany. This Disclaimer sets out the editorial and legal terms on which the content is provided. It should be read together with our Legal Notice (Impressum), Privacy Policy, and Cookie Policy.
1. Editorial accuracy and currency of information
The content on whatsupgermany.com is produced with care, based on official sources and verified at the time of publication. Despite this care, we make no warranty as to the accuracy, completeness, currency, or quality of the information provided.
German law, regulations, and administrative practice change frequently. Information that was correct at the time of publication may become outdated. Where an article concerns a topic that changes regularly, such as visa rules, tax thresholds, or welfare entitlements, we encourage you to verify the current position against official sources before acting on it.
Where we become aware of an error, we correct it promptly and visibly. Substantive corrections to a published article are dated and noted at the foot of that article, so that you can see when and how the content was updated.
2. No professional advice
Whats Up Germany provides editorial information for general orientation. The content on the site does not constitute, and is not intended to substitute for, professional advice in any of the following fields:
- Legal advice. For questions of German or EU law, including residence permits, contracts, employment disputes, family law, and any matter requiring representation before a court or authority, consult a qualified lawyer (Rechtsanwalt).
- Tax advice. For tax filings, tax planning, freelance or self-employment registration, and cross-border tax matters, consult a qualified tax advisor (Steuerberater).
- Financial and investment advice. For decisions concerning loans, mortgages, pensions, insurance, or investments, consult a licensed financial advisor.
- Medical advice. For health-related questions, including insurance entitlements that depend on a medical assessment, consult a qualified medical professional.
- Immigration and citizenship advice. For binding interpretations of immigration law or visa eligibility in a specific case, consult an immigration lawyer or the relevant Ausländerbehörde.
Reliance on information published on this site is at your own discretion and at your own risk. We accept no liability for decisions made or actions taken on the basis of our content.
3. Calculators and interactive tools
WhatsUp Germany offers a range of interactive tools, including the Net Salary Calculator and the Cost of Living Calculator. These tools are designed for general orientation and rely on assumptions that may not match every individual situation.
Results produced by the tools are indicative only. They are not a substitute for advice from a tax advisor, financial advisor, or other qualified professional. The values used by the tools, including tax rates, social contribution rates, and cost-of-living averages, are updated periodically but may not reflect the most recent legal or economic changes.
You should not use the results of these tools as the sole basis for any binding decision, including employment negotiations, relocation decisions, or financial planning.
4. External links
Our content includes links to external websites, including official sources, news outlets, and partner platforms. We provide these links to help you access primary information and supporting context. We have no control over the content of external sites, and we cannot guarantee that the content remains accurate, current, or appropriate after the time of linking.
The content of linked sites is the sole responsibility of their respective operators. The presence of a link on our site does not constitute endorsement of any product, service, or opinion expressed on the linked site. If you become aware of unlawful content on a site we link to, please inform us through our contact form and we will review the link promptly.
5. Affiliate links and sponsored content
WhatsUp Germany may, from time to time, include affiliate links or publish sponsored content. Where this is the case, the relationship is disclosed transparently in line with § 5a of the German Act Against Unfair Competition (UWG) and the journalistic principles of the German Press Code (Pressekodex Ziffer 7).
We use the following labelling conventions:
- “Affiliate link” or a small icon next to a link, indicating that we may receive a commission if you make a purchase or sign up for a service through that link. The commission does not change the price you pay.
- “Sponsored”, “Werbung”, or “Anzeige” at the top of an article, indicating that the article was produced in cooperation with, or paid for by, a third party. The third party is identified in the article.
- “In cooperation with” where a partner contributed to the content but did not pay for placement.
Unless an article or link carries one of these labels, the content is independent editorial work and no commercial relationship is associated with it. We do not allow paid relationships to influence the editorial judgement applied to non-sponsored content.
6. AI-assisted and AI-generated content
Translation and editorial production at WhatsUp Germany may use AI tools as part of the workflow. The use of AI tools does not replace editorial judgement. All published content is reviewed and edited by a human editor before publication, and the editor remains responsible for accuracy and tone.
Where an image, audio, or video on the site has been generated using artificial intelligence, it is clearly labelled as such. The label may appear as a caption, watermark, or notice near the asset, and includes wording such as “AI-generated image” or equivalent.
This labelling practice is consistent with our editorial commitment to transparency, and with the transparency obligations imposed by Article 50 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (the EU AI Act), which apply from 2 August 2026.

8. Trademarks and third-party names
WhatsUp Germany refers to third-party companies, products, services, and trademarks for the purposes of editorial commentary, reporting, and reader orientation. All such names and marks are the property of their respective owners. Reference to a third party on our site does not imply any affiliation with, endorsement by, or sponsorship from that third party, unless expressly stated.
9. Copyright in our own content
The content on whatsupgermany.com, including original articles, translations, illustrations, and tool outputs, is protected by German copyright law (Urheberrechtsgesetz, UrhG). Reproduction, adaptation, distribution, or any other form of exploitation outside the limits of copyright requires our prior written consent.
Short excerpts for the purpose of reporting, commentary, or quotation are permitted within the limits set by § 51 UrhG, provided that WhatsUp Germany is credited as the source with a visible link to the original article.
10. Limits of liability
Subject to the limits set out below, our liability arising from or in connection with the use of this website and its content is limited to cases of intent and gross negligence.
This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot be excluded under mandatory German law. In particular, our liability remains unaffected in the following cases:
- Liability under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz).
- Liability for injury to life, body, or health caused by negligent or intentional breach.
- Liability for the breach of an essential contractual obligation (Kardinalpflicht), where liability is limited to foreseeable damages typical for the type of contract.
Sections 7 to 10 of the Digitale-Dienste-Gesetz (DDG) on the liability of service providers apply in addition to the above. The corresponding provisions are also reflected in our Legal Notice (Impressum).
11. Changes to this Disclaimer
This Disclaimer may be updated when the content offering or the underlying legal framework changes. The “Last updated” date at the top of this document indicates when the most recent change was made.
12. Contact
